Category Taxonomy for Residential Integrators

Hierarchies are intended to create and give structure to a related set of items for the purpose of classifying, ordering, and for our purposes here, creating a common understanding between all of the people involved in executing a process.  Well that is the exactly the purpose of this taxonomy created by the BlueDog team.

This taxonomy of product categories has been refined over the last 10 years to support not only system engineering, but also the sales and accounting processes and systems that are upstream and downstream of the engineering function.

Like in all excesses of classification, we had to make informed trade-offs between what is a top-level category vs. a sub-category.  We did so with the intention to optimize the entire process flow for a residential systems integrator.

We know that there are many different ways to create a taxonomy such as this, and by no means do we believe that this taxonomy will address the needs of every integrator.  However, we do know that this category works for dozens of integrators allowing them to quickly create proposals, that are easily consumed by an engineering and system design team, which can then be fed to the accounting team for ordering and inventorying, and lastly by the operations team for installation at the right time.

That said, we are happy to share with the entire industry the Category Taxonomy that has made BlueDog and our clients successful.
